Our friends from across the pond, Prime Loops, recently gave us exclusive access to their latest sound samples for review. Now, I must say that I am a big proponent of using sound loops to improve music production workflow. However, I was a bit skeptical of the sample loops pack as dirty south rap beats are not my area of expertise.
Upon opening the pack, I was greeted by 400 MB of trunk rattling, crunk style sound loops. The Prime Loops Dirty South Takeova pack comes with 5 music construction kits and 6 folders worth of one shot sounds, including cymbals, sound effects, hi hats, kicks and 808s, percussion sounds, snares, and claps.
The bulk of the WAV loops in the sample pack are between 65 – 80 beats per minute (BPM). As the Prime Loops website suggest, they’re well suited to the mainstream dirty south rap sound. Many of the drums sounds (especially the kicks and 808s) were reminiscent of those used in the beats of hip hop music producers Lex Luger, Sonny Digital and Lil Lodi.

I can’t say that I was blown away entirely by the drum loops and samples, but it did help me improve my music production workflow which is always a plus.
Overall, if I had to rank this package on scale of 1 to 5, 1 being poor and 5 being excellent, I’d give it a 3.5/5 ranking. The Prime Loops Dirty South Takeova package is available for a little under $25 American dollars.
