Making A Rap Mixtape: A How To Guide
But before you begin the journey on creating the best rap mixtape it’s important that you prepare yourself for what is ahead.
How To Make A Mixtape
When making a rap mixtape you will most likely start by downloading a few rap beats online. You may even look for youtube rap instrumentals of popular released songs to begin the mixtape creation process. Regardless, you will want to carefully select the beats you’ll rap to. Even though you may love particular instrumentals, you have to think in terms of the totality of your project.
Do you have a themed mixtape project?
Are you creating a “new sound”?
Is this an EP? or LP?
These are just a few of the questions you’ll want to ask yourself when making the hip hop mixtape.
Given the current attention spans of music consumers, it’d be a good idea to not overload them with 20-30 songs on your mixtape. A more practical way to approach your mixtape would be to develop 10-12 strong songs that you feel confident about promoting on your mixtape.
This is not to say you shouldn’t record 20-30 songs (you actually should record more), however, in the final selection process 10-12 songs will be perfectly sufficient for your mixtape’s rap songs.
