Remembering September 11th 2001
September 11th, 2001 will be forever marked as a pivotal turning point in America’s history. The fateful day that the twin towers fell in New York will effect generations for decades to come in all aspects of life – socially, physically, mentally, and spiritually. The impact of World Trade Center bombings on the lives of families across America is still being felt today. The question many us will be asking as the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 approaches is, “What were you doing when the towers fell?”
After the dust settled that day, many began to mourn. Others were tasked with the duties of cleaning up ground zero. And somehow in the midst of all the chaos, music found a way to touch us, heal us, and help us remember those we lost in a way that nothing else could. Hip hop music has always found a way of depicting the struggle for existence–the harsh realities of life and death. In remembrance of those we lost, here are a few sad hip hop songs* dedicated to the victims of 9/11 (in no particular order).
1. Tupac – Changes
2. Puff Daddy/Faith Evans/112 – Missing You
3. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony – Tha Crossroads
4. Ghostface Killah ft. Mary J. Blige – All That I Got Is You
6. Aaliyah ft Jay-Z Miss You
7. Geto Boys – 6 Feet Deep
