New Orleans Rapper Lil’ Wayne and his Young Money conglomerate continue to defy the odds. In a music industry where internet piracy and illegal downloading have dominated, Weezy and company continue to sell records. Wayne released his Tha Carter IV project on August 29,2011 and moved close to 1 million units the first week.
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) now reports that the rapper’s album is certified double platinum. This accomplishment, achieved in just 3 months, deserves a huge round of applause. Tha Carter IV has become the number one selling rap album since Wayne’s Tha Carter III, released in 2008.
Right on the heels of his label mate, Drake moved very respectable numbers of his album, Take Care. Although Drake’s album leaked early, Take Care managed sell 631,000 units in its first week.
