Hip Hop can celebrate today! Fayettville, North Carolina rapper, J. Cole has debuted atop the billboard charts. The Nielsen Soundscan reports show that the “Can’t Get Enough” MC sold 218,000 units of his album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. The Roc Nation rapper made history with his release. It’s the fist time a solo act’s debut effort has entered at No. 1 since Atlanta hip hop artist, B.o.B. did back on May 14, 2010. Cole World: The Sideline Story has the highest sales week for any act’s debut album since Nicki Minaj released Pink Friday.
Jay-Z congratulated his Roc nation artist stating, “J. Cole’s success is testament to amazing artist development and Cole’s hard work…I want to congratulate him on a #1 album and more importantly a great body of work.”
Urban Music President (Sony) and manager, Mark Pitts, also sent his praises to the “Work Out” rapper. “J. Cole personifies humility and grace with edge and depth. As an MC, his point of view speaks to and represents me. I’m proud and blessed to be a part of his journey!”
